He met a stranger to sell a car. He never came home.
David Navidad-Parra was a 27-year-old Army Captain and West Point graduate, home on leave in Phoenix. He agreed to sell his father-in-law's car to a stranger who answered an online listing. Hours later, he was dead — shot during what was supposed to be a routine test drive. His killer, Abel Uribe, was caught within two days after trying to use David's stolen credit card. Nearly four years later, Uribe pleaded guilty — and the sentencing hearing itself made national news when David's father-in-law, unable to hold back, attacked Uribe in the courtroom.
This is the full story: the crime, the investigation, the guilty plea, the courtroom outburst, and the sentence that leaves the door open for parole in 25 years.
What do you think — does 25 years to parole feel like real accountability? And what should happen to a grieving father who couldn't stop himself from reacting to his son-in-law's killer laughing in the same room? Let us know in the comments.
